Respect to Mexico though they did a good job and it could've gone either way but eventually (8 mins in overtime) Argentina took the lead and just didn't give it away... And that goal was awesome ...Germany vs Sweden was a bit weird... Sweden didn't show what they could and the red card was lame (Especially if you see the ref giving it... He was smiling like some evil spawn from hell... Really anyone would kick his ass if this wasn't on tv) cause he only gave it after some germans whined... Then the missed penalty wich was a big shocker and could've been the turning point in the game... But overall Germany played well and were attacking hard and the defence was holding strong |

Hard to tell... Mexico showed that Argentina isn't unbeatable and Germany is on a role now so it could go either way... But i am also leaning towards Argentina... Germany has just recovered from a small crisis with the coach and the keepers... The whole of Germany was against him but now they have won and he's a hero or something... But i keep in mind that their poule wasn't the hardest and they could have gotten worse then Sweden in this round... So now comes the real test for Germany... Are they able to beat a good and well organised team?... Let's just say i doubt it |

France vs Spain i don't know who to "root" for... I hope Barthez looses it and goes up to the middle of the field around the 80th minute...

Rep Power: 50 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Winners in light blue: Germany vs Sweden Argentina vs Mexico ^Well, these two games are already over but I expected both Germany and Argentina to pass. I didn't think Mexico would play so well though. Italy vs Australia Italy has a great team this year, and despite the 1-1 draw with the U.S. (I was at the game btw ), if you look at their roster you see nothing but solid players. I think it'll be close though, seeing as how Australia played so well against Brazil. In the end, Italy will win.Swiss vs Ukraine My answer is simply Shevchenko, Switzerland has played well, but I think Ukraine has the edge just because they have him. Ecuador vs England Ecuador has been a surprise along with Ghana. During the Elimination Round, they defeated both Brazil and Argentina to give them the third spot in the Conmebol region (Behind, of course, Brazil and Argentina). Ecuador rested Agustin Delgado for the Germany match so he should be very well rested for this matchup. Also, England lost Micheal Owen for the entire World Cup due to that knee injury in the 4th minute of the last game they played. I give Ecuador the win, even though England is a damn solid team, I see Ecuador as being the Korea and Turkey of 2006. (reffering to 2002) Holland vs Portugal Sure, Holland has stars like Van Nistelrooy and the veteran Cocu, and they tied Argentina, but Portugal has the uprising star Christiano Ronaldo (who's my favorite player, next to Ronaldinho) and veterans like Pauleta and Figo, who seem to get wiser with age. Pauleta led the Euro qualifying with 11 goals. Portugal is undefeated this World Cup (granted, they had Iran and Angola in their group...nothing against them, but they aren't exactly the most dangerous teams in the world) and they have Solari, the Coach who lead Brazil to it's 5th World Cup in 2002. I think Portugal will win this one with some, but not too much trouble despite what everyone else says. Ghana vs Brazil I don't think I need to explain myself here. France vs Spain France got lucky. I was rooting for Korea to pass, since they had trillions of fans rooting for them in their home country. I agree with Fencek on this one though. This could be a great match for two reasons. One: If France actually shows up, and they decide to play well like they did in '98, then this will be fucking entertaining. The other reason is because Spain has the worst luck in the round of 16 and anyone who follows soccer knows it. Spain always has a great team assembled and ready for the world cup, but they always choke in the 2nd round. I still pick Spain on this one though, Raul and El Niño Torres make up a great frontline, Puyol is an outstanding defender, and Casillas is a top-notch goalkeeper. Should be a close match, but Spain should win.

Mexico played great. Their first goal gave them some life in the game and they played hard to the end. Argentina pretty much control most of the game, but Mexico managed to stiffle our strikers. Saviola had a sure goal, but the Mexican keeper made a great save. Maxi Rodriquez's shot was one for the books. Just amazing control. Now, Argentina has to play Germany in Berlin Friday (2:55pm Est.) The Germans have a huge home field advantage, but Argentina will be ready to play. GO ARGENTINA!!!!

Mexico gave it all they had and gave Argentina some seriouse problems at the end. I gotta say it was a good game. Although I did notice that Argentina was plaiyng a bit poorly at times in their offence. They need to have that same type of control they had in their previouse games or Germany will beat them easy. As for the ecuador v england game, thats gonna be a close one. Rooting for Ecuador myself.

The big plus for the Germans is their size.

LOL...love the way you put that in red. Dont get me wrong, I'm rooting for Argentina to win, but if they play at the level they did against Mexico they will get blown out of the world cup.

Argentina has a better team than Germany, but Germany is the host team and their team is much taller and quicker than Argentina's is, on a neutral field i'd pick Argentina to win but since this is in Germany I think Germany will take this one.

Home field advantage is huge. Argentina will need to play their best if they want to move on. No doubt.

It will be cool as hell if Argentina can pull a win in Germany's turf. But I agree it will be tough. I'm realy looking forward to this game. Shame about Ecuador loosing. Oh well. I might take a quick peek at the Brazil V. Ghana game but Ill probably skip most of it unless I hear from my freinds that Ghana is pulling off a win.

These portugese bitches are butchering our team, it's not fucking free fight! Cards flying left and right and in the middle, it's out of control. 9 x yellow, 2 times red.

Match finished, four red cards, almost 20 yellow. 1-0 for portugal. They deserved to win, not cuz they were better, but because they finished one goal. We had chances enough, just didnt finish them. Thats it for us.
