And the second OP to R1 is one of the worst in anime history. Forgetting the crap song (Then again what can you expext from the same person who did the 4th Blood+ OP?) for a moment, the animation was 70% recylcled. It was like a bad amv.

I just couldn't get into the third OP, although I'm probably influenced by the fact that I didn't like the animation theme of that OP.

Seriously...what do you guys think CG is that songs by bands like Orange Range and Flow don't fit?

Personally I think it's all in the ability of the director or whoever directs the openings...if they've got the skill then the opening should work regardless.

Put me on that shit...I'd make opening gold!

Well...Imo Orange Range just doesnt suit anything. Their music is bleh. Asterisk cool and good for Bleach, but they went and ruined it with their actual release of it.

Anyway CG...when it comes down to it, its a mecha anime and you dont often see the Flow and Orange Range style of music in them (Ha though one exception comes to mind...Eureka 7's first opening by Flow. Great stuff). I've never seen anything Gundam, but I love Seed music and it works well with the visuals I've seen on youtube. Its very energetic and seems to suit the genre.

I think thats what it comes down to...the mech genre likes energy. Brainstormy:
FMP, Neon Genesis, Innocent Venus, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, Ghost in the Shell SAC and Gurren Lagann. The OP's are all filled with a kind of energy that Orange Range and Flow dont have.

Thats my theory anyway. I'm sure the music could work in another genre, with better direction.

FMP's OP's aren't full of energy, they're full of awesomeness. Fumoffu's OP is still the best OP of all time.

I really need to hunt down more songs by that group, I've only heard them in FMP.

Agreed about Fumoffu~ and didnt the same woman sing all the OP's and ED's in the FMP universe?

But anyway energy is all over FMP. Given its soft energy but its still present. TSR is the best example I think. Its very soft but adds a lot of electronica (or percussion or both) as an intergral part, giving it a lot of substance I call energy. Thus it doesnt have the annoying poprock feel of the Geass OP's which are mainly base insturments (Drums, guitar bass ect..) and if they do have any percussional or electronica underlay it does not feature prominantly, which makes it energy-less imo.

I dont know if thats a great explaination. Music theory is hard to describe.

Jupiter never gets an explanation in mecha anime. Whenever there's a plot device that needs explaining, just show Jupiter and everything is suppose to make sense

Yes, OP 3 was perfect, but they're not using it now.
Deal.

Last night I popped my "World End" karaoke cherry in front of my Japanese friends. Went over well...nice addition to Colors which I can also sing (and not even look at the lyrics).

And you know... (not related to CG) I just found out last night that the first theme to Aquarion is apparently REALLY popular among Japanese people for Karaoke. In two different rooms (we had the entire floor) they sung it and people all jumped in...me too much to their surprise.

I'm not surprised, Aquarions OP is really popular even on the interwebs like 2ch. Wasn't it 2nd in their top 300 poll or something?

It is a good song...too bad the anime was crap. I'll be working on that one for karaoke as well along with:

Hitomi no Tsubasa (3rd season 1 CG opening)
Doubt & Trust (2nd Dgrayman opening by the same group as the above)
Resonance (1st Soul Eater OP)

and many others

Hitomi no Tsubasa is actually not that hard to learn.
