Private Server and All Free Downloads are going to be turned off

This was forseable for sure and makes, especially since anime is becoming very accessible. I do believe in the forum and community, it's really one of a kind and great, and think it is so worth it and very possible to keep it up through member donations and such.

Lets be honest here. Who still actually downloaded Naruto and Bleach from this site? There are much easier and faster ways to get both (no offense Kakashi). I'm glad you finally took this step. Now you don't have to worry that much about the bills. Private server pays for itself and I'm sure you'll have a little extra for the forums. Lets hope this means the forums can continue now without worrying every month if the target is achieved or not.

I figured something like this would turn out eventually. I'm glad, Kakashi, you decided to still keep the forum up (right now). I never really downloaded here much anymore. It's admirable that you kept the private server and downloads open for this long. I now wonder how long the forum itself will survive. Several donators have not been active on the forums and donated simply for the downloads. Those individuals would probably have no interest in keeping the forum alive.

It will be a shame to see this forum go down. With the help of the members we will be able to keep it up. Kakashi can tell you how much the costs are for the forum and if the members are willing to stay here but download else it would be ok.

Most people that i know from the forums is here for the community. Anyways i would also like to thank the people who supported Kakashi through the years.

^ Yeah, and really annoying that FUNi has been given Power of Attorney from many of the Japanese Studios. Now they can go after people and enforce the copyright of anime they haven't even licensed.

I think it's a good move, too. NM's download section was great back in '04 when downloads were hard to find, but now torrents are popular and more efficient, so it doesn't make much sense to keep it up.

But I agree, I've never really used the DDs. Torrents are more consistent with the fast speeds.

I was thinking, and now seeing how the downloads are gone, there isn’t much of a reason to keep the name narutomania.

Narutomania obviously attracts people interested in naruto/ other anime, but as there are no downloads anymore those people will most probably contribute to the anime sections. But the thing is, the anime sections aren’t the heart of the forum.

Once NM had a flourishing GD section with great topics, the debate section used to be pretty beast too. Not to mention the Graphics section, which used to hold its own against most other forums. Don’t get me started bout the pathetic section known as the lounge, which used to be epic lulz.

These sections are the heart of the forum, and seeing how downloads are gone, attracting people interested in mostly anime wont help revitalize these sections.

Of course you can keep the theme of the site anime, as it is a common interest among most of the people here, but I think changing the name would be a step in the right direction now, as you explained in your first post the reason you started the site and the reasons I explained here.

Just a suggestion.

Okay so after the site was shut down earlier today (with a message saying that it would be shut till the donations target was met) and then reopened a few hours later, without any real explanation can anyone (Jay?) clarify the situation for us?

Just to point out again, you can now donate junk you have around your house to NM if you can't afford to send cash. I think if we can get this rolling, it'll help a lot with sustaining the site.

After my 2nd item finishes, I'm heading to vacation in Japan for a month, so it'll be awhile before I get back to put more stuff up.

So what are we looking at for monthly cost of the forums alone? My only concern is that I can't see that many people outside of the NM regulars and staff forking out money every month to post on a forum. Although optimistically speaking, if the cost ain't high then we alone can probably manage it.
