gotta agree with most of you guys, I love all types of music, rap being one of them. I like artists like 2pac, Dre, Cypress Hill, NWA, Method Man, and Red Man, and my new favorite rapper Tech N9ne, he's got the phattest rhymes, and flow ever, it's too good.

The new generation of the mainstream blows besides Lupe, Kanye, The Game, and a few others. Late 80s and 90s cant be touched.

Most of the rappers are under labels that are ran by white men which is why rap sucks nowadays.(The reason Ice Cube dissed NWA in No Vaseline, he said this shit would happen a long time ago anyway)

It's been overstated and reiterated how rap just isn't the same anymore. Still there are a few rappers and songs out there who are still decent and don't succumb to commercialness. E.g. Talib Kweli, Mos Def, etc.

Lupe, Kanye and The Game are real good given the rappers and environment they're surrounded in.

Meh I guess it depends on your preference. I've loved all of there work from Eternal Reflection and Black Star days. I'll agree with the fact that production wise their music may not be too strong but lyrically they shit over a lot of other rappers.

I dislike kanye, a lot. Even though a lot of people say he's amazing, I'm one of those people that think he's a damn thief for taking other songs, remixing them, and just rapping over their beats, instead of getting his own.

Rappers are workers. They are no different than the person who works at a fast food place. They work for their respective record labels and do what is required for their profession/job.

If their label wants them to make tracks/albums that are easier for the public to digest, then so be it. They want to keep their job, because they know that they can be replaced, since there is always an overabundance of rappers from whatever working-poor or working class neighborhood.

But ya know, some people get big heads eventually and start thinking that they are not the worker, but either an independent, or the owner. Then they are typically fired, or fired and black-listed.

So if I were a rapper, I would do what I can during my period of being marketable.

This is also the same in other genres of music, and most evident in the top 40 segment.

As for the main topic of this thread, of course the rap scene is changing. It has to, or it will die. Not saying changing will make the genre immortal, but it is the only way for it to at least try to survive.

What on earth are you talking about? "The Art?" Are you high or something? Rap hasn't been an art in quite a while, it is under the same umbrella as Elevator music, pure soulless crap.

If I were a musician, id like to be paid for my work and effort. I'd like to make a nice career off of my music. If someone asked me to write a song I didn't quite feel too keen too, but they were paying a nice penny for me to write it, I'd be a fool not to take up the offer. It doesn't matter if the devil himself paid me to write a song, money is still money, and money can help buy security of survival, which is what it is all about.

Now, would you like for a musician to be broke, but stay true to "the art"? You are sounding quite selfish. You want someone else to do what YOU want them to do even if it is contrary to what they want. You are a piece of work.

The fact of the matter is that Rap as it is now will continue to be what it is, for better or worse, only if it can sustain profitability. If it fails to turn a profit, then it will get canned faster than Alaskan tuna.
