The series celebrates the 25th anniversary of the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross TV series (1982~1983), and is a direct sequel to Macross 7 (1994~1996). This third TV series features the U.N. Spacy's latest main variable fighter, the VF-25 and a new spaceship called the Macross Frontier.

On the Macross timeline, the story is set on the year 2059. The series features the 25th colonial fleet, dubbed the Macross Frontier, en route near the galactic center.

During a mission to an unexplored asteroid belt, a reconnaissance VF-17 is destroyed by powerful & fast insectoid biomechanical alien mecha, which immediately begin their attack on the rest of the fleet. Not being able to stop the new enemy threat, the U.N. Spacy forces authorize the deployment of an organization called S.M.S., which utilizes the new VF-25 variable fighter to destroy the alien menace.

Its Mecha/Sci-Fi. Its from a long series of other Macross shows that started out 25 years ago.

Think of it similar to Gundam(lots of series) only the story and stuff is different.

That trailer looked kick ass thanks Kraker2k. This macross seems to be very colorfull. I like the style a lot but did I see 3d mechs. It looked like 3d and 2d combined.
I guess I just have to accept that there'll never be something as cool as Macross Plus ever again. Kickass characters (manly for once and not bitchy girl look-alikes), awesome animation (2d is tha best) and a beautiful sountrack.

D: ! and I thought macross had finished. Macross is certainly in the discussion for mecha supremacy, but since there are no recent series, people don't know of it (and of the various rip-offs certain animes have stolen).

How long have you been watching anime? I think the first macross aird when I was like 6 years old and I still remember watching that and thinking: damn this is cool. Macross has always been about romance so don't expect anything else from this one.

i've always wanted to pick up Macross but it sounded like a racing type, the title itself sounds like a bike name

I suggest you watch Marcoss Plus, since it's the best IMO and you can start watching it without having watched any other Macross anime.

Macross or Robotech to many is what got me into anime, it aired on sat mornings and i had to get up at 5 am to watch it. It was epic for someone like me. Lots of action mixed into the love story. And no super powered pilots either, the main protaganist was a very average pilot.

It was so cool battle tech stole the Mech designs and put them into their games and got sued over it. (similar to the D&D Cuthullu debacale.)

I own almost everything that's on the list on vhs. I've always been a big fan of macross series, never read the books though.

They were interesting, but if you are a fan of macross, and not the robotech americanized stuff it will do nothing for you. And towards the end of the books it got way to magical for me really. Kinda like gunbuster esq with planet mechs fighting each other. It didnt feel right to be honest in the last book which has no movie or show comparision since it was all original. book was called end of the cycle.

Ill prob watch it, but Not sure how the preview makes me feel like i was watching gundam Seed for a second. the only thing that looked macross to me was the seconde stage transformed mech.

If they screw this ill be upset to say the least (like how i felt watching macross movie 2 lovers again ugh craptacular)(i mean really the journalist was the main character and no heros in mechs it was a let down)
