I'm appealing to the almost scientific impossibility of faster than light travel. Even if it was possible, you still wouldnt see it in your lifetime, or the lifetime of your childrens childrens childrens. We in 2008 have yet to accomplish man missions past our moon, let alone the closest planet. Going by those parameters and probabilites, having the ability to leave our solar system within any concievable lifetime seems insurmountable.(speaking of manned missions) But there is always hope i guess.

this kind of stuff makes me wonder how far the human race is really going to go. it seems that we want our race to continue on through time even if it's not in the same planet we started on.

We could still find a way to bend the fabric of space time and instantly move from one location to another without crossing the distance between them, and we wouldn't be traveling faster than light so no law would be broken. There are many very futuristic possibilities as far as getting around the whole light speed barrier. So I wouldn't use that as the signal excuse for why we won't be able to travel between stars one day. | |

We are nowhere near the point of bending time and space to create manmade wormholes. If wormholes exist, you would have better luck finding a natural one and using It. But time would be better spent in attempting to devise a way in which you can travel to the closest planet, in a practical manner.
