Bandana's in the mall

Ok, I'm at the mall with my little brother and sister today. I have on my sun shades blue jeans white shoes and a white hat with black New York Yankees symbols all around it. Around my neck I wear a black and white checkered bandanna in the bandit style that matched my outfit perfectly. I also wore a white belt with silver mental and black designs. So I go into the Mall and I'm get what I need to get minding my own business. Everything goes great. Then this rent a cop turns around an taps me on the shoulder on my way out of the mall. I take the Bandanna of and leave cause I have things to do.

Anyways, the funny thing is every time I go into the mall the Emo/Goth/Preppy kids can wear Bandana's around there arms, necks, heads. It's perfectly fine when they do it. But when I wear a Bandana that I purchased from the Hot Topics at that mall the day before it's a problem. I wasn't causing any trouble. I didn't have on any gang color's I was mostly sticking to white. >.> I seriously wanted to scream out racial profiling because, I've never heard you can't wear a Bandana in the mall because PEOPLE WEAR THEM ALL THE TIME!!!!

Excuse me, but I'm in college and I'm also a cadet in the army which will make me an officer when I graduate in charge of people twice my age. I find it stupid that he would make me take my bandana of when there are lots of other people in the mall with them on.

The guard tapped my shoulder and said "You'll have to remove the bandana they are no bandana's allowed in the mall" after which i removed it.

If it really bothered you I would call the mall and explain what happened and ask them to explain where it is posted that bandanas are not allowed.

I'm white, but I don't steryotype people.

But, i mean, at airports, everyone, well not everyone, but a lot of people steryoetype the middle-eastern men and women and immediately feel "un-easy" around them.

In the steet, a group of youths standing around in trackies or hoody's(streets of england, not sure about america), and everyone steryotypes them and starts to feel like they're going to do something, that the youths are up to no good or drinking etc, chances are, they're right lol, but not all the time.

Erm, if someone looks at a white guy dressed in baggy clothes associated with hip-hop people immediately think "He's trying to be black", that's extremely racist. I've seen hundreds of black men and women in very smart suits etc.

I'll admit, i steryotype people sometimes, but only really the group of people standing around, it's like a media drilled it into your head and you start to feel un-safe.

But a bandana, and with your little brother, seems a bit odd.

btw, are you doing the rotc program. if so, you should be going in as a corporal at least. i plan on going to western kentucky university and participating in their rotc program, which they claim will make me a seargent when i graduate.

Yes, I'm in my colleges ROTC program. If your not in the army and you're in the rotc program you go to Second Lieutenant upon graduation. If you are in the army I think it's something different but I know that you're in ROTC in college when you get out you commission in as a 2nd Lt. I spent the summer making up two years worth of training at Fort Knox Kentucky. It's a hard life. Drill Sargents oh the Drill Sargents.

Earlier today, someone in my Spanish class asked me if I knew what some really complicated word was. When I responded that I didn't know, she said, "But you're Spanish. Shouldn't you know Spanish?"
Problems with this:
1. I'm middle eastern
2. She thinks all latinos and people of Spanish descent know Spanish

Stereotyping happens to everyone, or at least everyone that isn't white. I hate it too, but I feel that the best way of dealing with stereotyping is with intelligence and examples, which stereotyping seems to lack.

Is the bandana a black thing or is it a ghetto thing? Mexicans run all the gangs around here so I would say it's more ghetto but whatever. He just probably doing whatever the mall administration tells him to do.
