Default 'Biggest Military Hack of All Time' Was Done Over a 56k Connection

Quote:
Using his own computer at home in London, McKinnon hacked into 97 computers belonging to and used by the U.S. government between February 2001 and March 2002.
McKinnon is accused of causing the entire U.S. Army's Military District of Washington network of more than 2,000 computers to be shut down for 24 hours.

Using a limited 56-kbps dialup modem and the hacking name "Solo" he found many U.S. security systems used an insecure Microsoft Windows program with no password protection.
He then bought off-the-shelf software and scanned military networks, saying he found expert testimonies from senior figures reporting that technology obtained from extra-terrestrials did exist.

At the time of his indictment, Paul McNulty, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, said: "Mr. McKinnon is charged with the biggest military computer hack of all time."

He's currently awaiting extradition to the United States where, if convicted, he'll face up to 70 years in jail and up to $1.75 million in fines.

so he did all this to find if Alien existed ,totally crappy
what's the point of hiding something about alien if Alien shows on NGa(National geographic) and other shows talk about not being sure yet if they existed.Pics these days can be tricky and false

If what he is saying is true ,let them show the world the fact that alien existed, cause until now nothing was revealed all was an attempt to confuse people by tricks ,Ufo video,pics....
70 years =eternal life with 1.75$ (lot of money) just for getting info about alien technologie
isn't that a bit to far don't you think so?

But i agree he got skills using just 56 Klol

This goes to show that you could do anything with a computer now these days.

I thought that the US military was the most advanced of the rest of the world, but now this goes to show that they are not.

Most advanced, they used a insecure windows program that had no password protection
They literally had a big sign raised up saying hack into us cause we got no protection, they couldn't have dropped the ball worse if they tried

At best it was the day to day computers used. Lots of em around, used for email, writing reports and bullshit like that.

The stuff that was actually secure is not likely to be hacked.

I hear about this sort of thing a lot. Many members of the Senate, including those who are privy to sensitive information have had their computers hacked.

I don't blame the hackers one bit because if some bumbling idiot here is doing it, you can be assured Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and others are doing it as well.

Security is not the hacker's responsibility. It cannot be an honor system. You can bet sensitive information has been put up in insecure places. The personal and confidential information on millions of Americans from the Social Security Administration has been compromised as an example.

I don't trust people with sensitive information because many people don't follow through proper procedures to ensure safety.

Just like a nurse I know works for a surgeon who had the medical records of dozens of her patients strewn around haphazardly in the floorboard of her SUV for over a month. That goes against every rule in the book for treating medical records. You think some idiot like Ted "the Internet is a Series of Tubes" Stevenson knows what the fuck he's doing?
