Well basically I love Piano & Violin but considering that a real piano costs around 100k$ and I wont be able to buy one of those before after 10-12 years and I love the piano more than the violin I consider buying a keyboard, now I know next to nothing about Pianos or Keyboards so I thought I should ask you guys for help. My budget is 300-400$. 1) How well does a keyboard mimick the piano? 2) When buying one (I aiming towards a used one, as they are cheaper and offer the same thing) what should I look for? I want it to simply mimic the piano I dont need no trance mix stuff 3) Any other input appreciated

I have never seen a keyboard mimic the piano well at all. But the price difference is extraordinarily different. Keyboards just don't have that resonance.

Pianos and keyboards are completely different. If you really want that piano sound you are not going to be happy with a keyboard at all. Pianos are expensive yes, but you can find a used one for $300-$400. Not a nice baby grand, but a serviceable upright. Pianos are fucking heavy and a bitch to move, people sell them cheap when someone dies or they are moving and don't have room for it. Just cruise the local listings for a bit and! check the salvation army, etc. Just get it professionally tuned AFTER you have it moved into the place you want to play it and you should be ok.

Go for the cheap piano, I've played keyboard for 6 years. And trust me, there's nothing like the real thing. I've tried playing the luxurios keyboard kind as well, but it's just not right! Especially if you develop your musical senses after a while. And PS, keyboards are allways added with a whole bunch of retarded features you'll probably never really use. And yes, it's a different kind of instrument. The way you play keyboard is generally completely different then playing piano. |

nothing compares to a real piano and playing a keyboard just doesnt feel the same, especially one of those cheap shitty ones sure you can have fun with all of the different sounds, but it wont sound how it should i say if you want one, buy it second hand, there should be plenty out there at a reasonable price but always ask how often it gets tuned and how old it is. you dont want a really old piano that never got tuned. |

Why don't you look for a second hand piano in stead of a new one. Sometimes the old ones give better sound than the new ones but this is my oppinion. Or try to lease one, maybe that is a good option to look at.

Stupid norway with its 4 million population, didnt find a single site with stores that lease pianos. By chance there is a used piano for 300$ in the same city I live in so maybe I can take a look at it sent a mail to the seller.

You could look into digital Pianos that has the "feeling" of a real with keys heavy and dynamic sounds. But the real deal is probobly what you want when it comes to power and sound. Recording songs and taking tutorial lessons are slight easier with digital pianos than real ones. It's just about personal flavour. I love my keyboard and I have more fun playing it than playing my grandma's piano. Just test and buy.

Piano just sounds and feels different. Piano keys are weighted to offset the weight of the hammer. Just much different feel to it. But a keyboard may be much better for learning. I don't recommend learners dumping much money into anything until they know it's something they really want to commit to.
