2. Ok, maybe arguing with you can be fun sometimes And no matter how much I could hope for you to be mauled by a bear, it would never happen, so whatever.

careful with what you wish for our dreams some times come true . But yeah in wilderness it would be smart to have some campfire burning in the night , even if its embers : you can still hear about couples being mauled by mountain lion or bear once in awhile .

Heh, well a lot of cities didn't realize city planning was needed until after the city got fairly large. For some reason, at one time, a lot of people ran off to Calgary for jobs or whatever and haphazardly settled there. Essentially it was anarchy. Not like a nice suburb that has been developed by a co-op of rich land developers. But if you think that's bad, try a city like Tokyo. Ironically the ancient capital of Kyoto was well planned in the Heien period (~790s) and the streets still exist to this day. They were built so wide that they never had to be widened. Quote:

anyways, change of plans. I was hoping on getting out of Alberta soon and getting to BC hoping it'd be cooler on the coast, but its HOTTER, and I had to take days off because it was too hot to do anything, and THATS inside a house, not living out of my Jeep like when I'm on the road... I could seriously die living in my jeep in BC from the heat alone, so I'll skip it, and check out the east in early spring. I can always come back and see the west some other time. For now I'm heading home soon. Expect a conclusion to this in 3-4 days, and Greatest Man The Sequel in March or April | |

so you ended up spending your trip in your uncles basement, pussied out of checking out the coast because is too hot, and got home-sick so your going back home. You fail as a hobo.

Actually I traveled all over Alberta, then came back to get ready for BC, but yeah, I know you'd rather I die of heat, but I'd rather bug you all some more.

Well it's certainly reasonable to end your trip at this point. I mean, it's not like you really planned it out; you made it up as you went along. You had some fun and got to travel at least, so that's cool. Your plans kind of fell into a state of chaos, and from your descriptions, you seem kind of ill prepared to deal with the unforseen circumstances. No need to be stupid about it; you are probably making the right choice. Good luck on the way home.

Yeah, I realized that. I was in two big cities, and never really got around to doing what I had expected, mainly because I didn't think to prepare. I was a little better off with the map in edmonton. but even then, I hadnt done any research. When I head east early next year, I'll plot my route, choose my cities, and then find out where I'd be going in that city before I even left. The entire time I was looking for a library, but even with the map I never made my way to one because I didnt know exactly where they were, and the one I DID know I couldn't get to in Cal for lack of a map, and construction. I'll make sure to have maps when I leave again, and to plan stuff out. If I move away from the plan at times to do other stuff, that's fine too, but the plan is mainly so I'll know what there is to do. So yeah, I was pretty ill prepared. It was fun, not too much of an adventure, but I've done and seen a lot of new things that will prepare me for East, and eventually the US, and maybe even Mexico and S America. Who knows, eventually I might hit Eurasia, though I don't have it planned for the foreseeable future. I don't really see this as giving up, rather going back to the drawing board. |

Yeah, you don't want the trip to be too rigid because you lose the sense of freedom and adventure, but at the same time you need some kind of organization to ensure you don't have to worry about the basic needs and accessing the objects of interest. On a large scale trip like this you can't expect things to just work out by themselves. I personally would prefer to travel through Europe, but Canada has a lot to offer as well. |

Honestly in regards to personal safety and stuff prepare before hand... but you were hobo-ing... nothing should have kept you back... all you needed to know was is the locations for gas stations/quick shops... and don't need to go to uni campuses or libraries to use the net... laptop and wifi ftw... heat should be no problem honestly people survive the hot humid jungles of the amazon/africa... hopefully next time you go out to try this... toughen up a bit and swallow some pride and just brave it out.
