A compressible isotropic linear elastic rod is stretched by 5% and twisted by an angle of 10°. Find the corresponding strains and stresses. Assume homogeneous displacements. What is the resultant force and the moment acting on the rod?

Find the lines that are (a) tangent and (b) normal to the curve at the givin point

(x^2)(y^2) = 9, (-1, 3)

If you want to do implicit differentiation:

1) Use the power/chain rule ----- 2x + 2y (dy/dx) = 0

2) Isolate dy/dx ----- dy/dx = -(2x/2y)

3) To find the tangent line to that point I believe you just plug in the numbers you have into the derivative.


I don't know how to find the normal line off the top of my head >.>

woah thats like mix of calculus and algebra/geometry... I've done both in grade 12 but in a separate class I remember those two topics (implicit/normal line) but never done a problem that incorporates both into one thats kinda sick actually...

i think the differentiation is
2xy^2 + 2yx^2(dy/dx)=0
dy/dx=-2xy^2/2yx^2
