Iran Hopes to Send a Man to Space Within 10 Years

After a test satellite launch (Iran: success! USA: failure!) this past weekend carried out with one of their many, many missiles, Iran is rolling with the momentum and announcing plans to put a man in space within 10 years. While the feasibility of such a plan remains up in the air, it of course isn't the first time such an audacious goal has been set. At this point it's little more than wishful saber rattling, of course, but if there's one way to prove your mettle as a nation, it's to blast something big into space. But it would take a fool to think that space program could somehow help develop long-range ICBM systems, I mean, come on guys. Our space race with the Soviets was totally about the science. Right?

why not since it has been developing long range missiles and using nuclear power ,technology,Petrol it has everything it needs mostly (?) to do it ....

To me ,it's just to show the world what Iran is capable of since no Arabic country sent a man to space until now .......

@Krozy :You seem obsessed in starwars =P ....they didn't arrived to this technology yet ....give it like more 50 years to begin space war that if is they found a way to stop getting old(they are working on it tough) then you will get to see it on ..since until now they have barely got control of the moon and land a machine on mars

Don't forget that the more destructive power a nation have ,the less war will last cause all what will be left is stick and stone to fight with (the last part is mostly one of Einstein quote)

if Iran primary goal is to be the first arabic country to have a man in space (?),and to be the strongest among all including challenging Usa >.>.....i think she will be missing China who will overgrow ,she also proved that it's here (beijin Olympic)so in 10 years the other nations would have already maybe control most of space ,and china would have a high industrial control


Iran still hoping ,planning to....... but nothing can be impossible to do,who knows what will happen after a minute.....lol

Seriously, I think it's a good thing, at least they are doing something positive with their developed technology.

Of course they are developing ICBMs and the like, no country with the capabilities wouldn't.

i think should just wait and steal NASA's technology than invest their own resources on space projects lol. Why invest with your own capital when America pumps billions into the same technology

Those billions are used to blow the dust off the soon-to-be-ancient technology they have there, If i recall correctly at one time the space program had a funding equal to 2% of the GDP, now it isn't even a fraction of that, whatever jumpstart the US had it will quickly lose if they dont change things.

In other news, iranians are not arabs and I wish them luck, nothing bad can come out of this, at least now they will put more money into spaceprogram which means less money into anthrax plants.

It'll never happen, they'd run into the 3d combat problem; there's no way to defend anything in space. You can't form 'lines' or block enemy ships from moving wherever they want to go unless you have far more ships than they do. There wouldn't be any 'battles', just both sides destroying whatever the other side builds at will...

umm they are not renewable becouse you have to deal with whole tone of nuclear waste , plus minding uranium is hazardous for environment which leads to contamination of local bodies of water .

iran claims they want nuclear energy not nuclear bomb . maybe if both sides would've cooperated "hint hint" and came up with a pact which would allow Iran build stations but give all the nuclear waste to moderators to prevent them ever build nukes every one would be happy , no?
