BOGALUSA, La. — Hattie Dillon got a first-hand taste of the racial hatred that gripped this city in the 1960s when a metal bolt flung by someone in an angry crowd gashed her head as she marched for civil rights.
On Wednesday, sitting on her front porch just off Main Street, the 61-year-old said Bogalusa is better now. But the bloody legacy of racial violence and brazen Ku Klux Klan activity in the area remains _ evidenced by the arrest of eight local people in the death of an Oklahoma woman shot when a weekend Klan initiation went awry.
"History was made this month," Dillon said, referring to Barack Obama's election as the nation's first black president. "Then our eyes opened again."
Bogalusa, a logging town dominated by a huge paper mill about 60 miles north of New Orleans, is the largest city in Washington Parish, which, like the whole state, was won by John McCain, not Obama last week.
Sunday's killing was in St. Tammany Parish, just across the Washington Parish line and all the suspects are from Washington Parish. Cynthia C. Lynch, 43, of Tulsa, Okla., was shot in an area of vast piney woods, farms and bedroom communities separated from New Orleans by Lake Pontchartrain.

I heard about this story and then seen it on CNN just awhile ago. For some reason I had it in my mind that the girl that got murked would be half decent looking. This chick is rough as fuck, srsly, you would think she was a man(reverse trap). Well she shouldn't of joined in the first place and now the group she wanted to join so much killed her. Discuss

The guy mentioned in the link, David Duke, lives in Memphis now. Last week he tried to get his new hate group, which I think is called European-American Rights Association, to have a convention at a hotel here. When the hotel found out what the group was, they were at first unsure what to do, since they had a contract. They eventually decided to rip up the contract, so Duke said that the convention would still go on at some unknown location. Who knows where it took place, but point is, that douche is still around.

Honestly, I like stories of them killing their own or ones that think it would be great to be in the group. Like I don't mind stories of gangs killing each other over drugs-I figure it cuts down on the numbers a bit and gives people a more realistic view on what those people are really like. If people are going to get excited about the KKK who had fallen out of power until recently again, they need to also get excited about gangs that run the streets and damage/rape/kill as initiations and religions that kill because you decide you do not believe in their way.
Groups like the KKK are every where and have been for a long time. The press is once again giving them power that they haven't had for a bit.

Terrorism works by those who give it power. Such as Bush becoming Captain Ahab after 9/11.

But personally I thought they should have been deemed a terrorist organization after that church bombing that killed the 5 little girls. They should have never been allowed to reform and to be sanctioned. For example, cities can't impede on their right to assemble. Hate groups are dangerous. There are dozens of restrictions placed on free speech when it comes to speech which is dangerous, but these guys pass right through that Supreme Court filter. The US Constitution places life and liberty above all else. Anything which threatens the life or liberty of another person has no protection by the Constitution. ...in theory

That sounds nice on paper putting the earmuffs on but even without giving these guys press and spotlight they're still dangerous. Even without media coverage these guys can still amass and rebuild and no one will ever know. I say take them down ASAP. They already killed someone. What else does it take for people to see we need to do something? That we have a home grown terrorist organization right here with open claims to want to assassinate the president. For them to start pulling Black people out of their houses and burning and killing them like it's the 1800's for people to see that they need to do something. Do I need to rez the Black Panthers or something?

There is no way to "take them out" any more than you can take out Hell's Angels, drug runners, religions, etc. Unfortunately, KKK is not some group of red necks like most like to think of them as and the group that killed her were probably not a sanctioned group. For the most part, they are a group who's leaders are smart enough to use the system against itself and brainwashes the young. I truly hope the new president can live up to his hype. If he doesn't, he will be the best recruiter the KKK has had in a long time.

The messed thing is when they took down the the Black Panthers out of their ashes formed the notorious "Bastards of the Party" (Bloods,Crips and etc).

When I first heard this story, I was like she must have saw something important or some people in high places at that meeting.A couple of days later I heard that they were going to get sued .

The big difference in the groups is not the skin color but the way they went about things. The Black Panthers were very well organized, but also quite vocal and their members were quite easy to find and identify-making them easy to get out of power and "destroy". The KKK is an organization that has been around for quite some time-they are organized and quite secretive about members which makes them much harder to ferret out and "destroy".

Sure, you could kill them, but that will just anger them more.

Sure, you could go in and arrest them, but that would do nothing.

They can't be that secret if they actively hold demonstrations and speeches and we know who there leaders are and they're attacking people. If the FBI wanted to eliminate the KKK and all the hate groups they would but they won't. I'm not gonna put on my tin foil hat so people can call me a nutjob but the reason these organizations have'nt been "destroyed" like the Black Panthers is obvious.
