Manitoba bus murder - disgusting...

A young man was stabbed and then beheaded in what appears to be an unprovoked attack on a Greyhound bus in the Canadian province of Manitoba, en route to Winnipeg. The attack occurred last night west of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, in a bus traveling from Edmonton, Alberta.

Pretty sickening. The murderer turned out to be some Chinese dude. I wonder what the other passengers were doing while this maniac slowly decapitated the victim...

The victim had been asleep when his seat mate suddenly began stabbing him in the throat with a hunting knife, according to a passenger sitting in the seat in front of them, the Globe and Mail said. The attacker then cut off the victim's head and carried it to the front of the bus after the other passengers had rushed off, the newspaper said.

They rushed off! WOW. Pretty much cowards imo. Wouldn't any of you guys at least throw something at him let alone try to help the poor victim?

Yea, to me that's even more scary -- not the part where he stabs a guy several times and then decapitates him, but the part where a bus full of people watched on as he did this, and then rushed off.

I can understand being frozen for a few seconds in shock, but to not do anything after that? Punch him in the back of the head, kick him in the groin, twist his neck, poke him in the eyes, choke him, stab him with a pen... nothing?

The guy just murdered someone, has a knife, and cut the victims head showing he is more than capable of killing others with no remorse, what do you expect the people to do? Cowards? No, they are just not idiots. If they threw something at the guy, he would most probably kill them also. It isn’t like he is unarmed, he has a knife and just killed someone.

a. the guy was already dead.
b. the murderer has a weapon.

the guy was stabbed in the neck repeatatly and then his head was cut off, i mean they could have all confronted the guy before he cut the other guys head off and tried to help the guy bleeding to death. Instead they left him at the guys mercy and he got his head cut off. well i guess they were looking out for number 1 themselves and leave a guy in desperate need.

THis article has a better sense of time line then the one originally provided, it might help clear some questions whether or not the head was cut off before or after the killer was locked inside the bus.

From this news report, it seems there was an effort to save the victim, they were just too late.

It's nice to hear that there were actually people who went back to help him and take back what i said in my previous posts. But why did the standoff with the police take several hours, couln't they have just raided the bus with guns, force him to the ground and drag him out.

There are more people in the bus than just one person. Together they can overpower the guy.

Plus, it's a knife, not a gun. It's not like the guy can finish everyone by shooting them off. If everyone overwhelmed him, then they can disarm him.

what are they gonna do to save the guy. a man stabbed in the throat will bleed to death in under 30 seconds. thats a shorter amount of time than an average person would have to get over the shock. and a person untrained to get a knife away from an assailant it will take minutes possibly. by that point, the victim is long gone, the people could have done nothing, and in the end were better off fleeing, to avoid furthur casualties and injuries.

Ever hear of the Marker test?

Get a friend to hold a marker with the goal of stabbing some one. Now have someone else try to restrain him and see how many marks those trying to restrain the marker holder get.

Imagine if that marker were a knife being swung by someone with every intent to kill someone.

No one wants to be knife fodder.

THe actions of the passengers guaranteed there would not be any more victims and that the killer would not be able to escape.

In that test, a marker wouldn't always indicate a direct hit with a knife. Then you add in the weight of the marker vs the weight of the knife, followed by restraining vs no-holds-barred fighting , and I think that's a rather weak test.

After reading the Bloomberg article, though, (I read the BBC one yesterday, and it didn't mention the victim getting stabbed in the throat first), I agree with what the passengers did... There probably wasn't a way to save the guy, and at least they stuck around to keep him trapped inside the bus.
