omg LMAO you were worse then me when i started drawing ![]() nah yo.. 1st thing is - never give up (haha) really...as bad as you are now...with practice you will get much much better how i learned how to draw humanoids was basically copy other peoples drawings chose a style you love the most..(for me it was Dragon ball) you can basically do anything..from real life photos to street fighter to LMP's pics.. start off by tracing them...after you get used to the hand movements and all that crap...try drawing with your eye...after you keep on doing that, youll start getting used to proportions and hand movements and all that thats how i started... i traced over and over and over again different pictures..then i started drawing them using them only as a reference..and now basically i can come up with a decent made up drawing with no reference man im so bored today >.>

holy fuck NO tracing is NOT THE WAY TO GO, you will learn NOTHING about shape/form/depth and it will RUIN YOUR ARTISTIC CAREER I SWEAR start with drawing things from life so you understand how to draw something that's actually 3D onto a 2D surface before trying to create a 3D environment from your mind. No seriously. Animators are the people who study the most life drawing and perspective, it's why they're good at their job.

i find the best way for me is to draw shapes first. this puts the whole picture in perspective after you've done that i fill it in with detail. thats the way ive found works best for me anyways and LMP is right, never ever EVER trace!!

^ When he was seven. I suggest paying other people to draw for you, and claiming it as your own. <--- Win. If that's not possible, draw everything you can, at every opportunity, look for anything that gives you inspiration and draw it, could help to carry around a drawing pad and pencil.

Alright, just a few things to help. when using a reference, observe the body proportions, the arms on yours should go a lot lower, right above the knee is where most stop, a little higher is ok, no lower. Also, you should start out using some basic shapes of what you want to draw, a oval for the head, then see where the eyes should be, the mouth, depending on what you are drawing, anime, is just where you think it should go , but sometimes people make the ends of the mouth end at the end of the eyes, (I don't), anyway there are other ways but thats probably the best, and instead of erasing after you do that, what I usually do is take another piece of paper and draw the real figure over it, then go from there and fix anything you need to fix, if you have then you can finish in a graphics program or traditionally. Other then that, you can find a lot of anime, comic book, and more figure, and face drawing tutorials on deviantart, or just google it. |

Expanding on whatever LMP posted and the majority of the posts following said post, you should begin to develop your own style in due time, or something akin to someone else's. Try to vary your subjects for whatever you're drawing/sketching/doodling. You may find your forte in something else entirely compared to many of the things you may have been drawing previously. .....But don't take my word for it. |

i am so dumb. here i am being so concerned about developing my own style. but i haven't really mastered anatomy and stuff. so yeah, note: first get your basic foundations down. after that, you can focus on style. anyways, i highly recommend browsing some online drawing tutorials concerning anatomy and basic shapes. from there, you can go on into more details like with lighting etc. |

with that anatomy thing in mind, you should check out some books by Leonardo De Vinci, best books i ever got. forgot what they were called. but that guy is the master of frigging everything

I could teach you but, then again I can't cause I don't even know where you live, lol. I used to trace when I was little but, at the age of 8 I my brother taught me...he said always start with the head head line then the hair and the face later draw the body and then add the details....hehee that is what he taught me and he is a swell drawer...he drew alot of things from anime to cartoon characters.lol. |

Anyway don't have anything more to ad to what's been said already. I never traced something, but I used to try to copy stuff (snk drawings, with my own style though). Just go for the "simple" drawings first. Eventually you'll create your own style. Practice, practice and practice more.

As for posting some doodles, I can do that later. I have to get over the fact that I failed one of my exams (which I can replace with another extra exam, luckily), draw some things, and actually get my grubby hands on another scanner. rebirth: I also forgot to note that those blood effects look excellent. You'll develop an ease in how you draw soon; sometimes it should come naturally or with plenty of effort - it usually depends if you're "in the mood" or not. That's how I've noticed that the quality of people's works are comparatively worse/better than usual. | |
