Since the old thread is outdated, and half of the links dont work anymore, I believe we should get a new one going. This is also because of the big change of style compared to the old tutorials and the ones we have now. So if you would, please post some of your OWN tutorials, that you created.
This specific post will be updated by myself and other mods.

/A/
> ABS - Abstract; "is now generally understood to mean art that does not depict objects in the natural world, but instead uses shapes and colours in a non-representational or subjective way." - Wiki

> Alias(ing) - Pixelated, usually horizontal, lines or edges.
Ex:


> Animated GIF - A .gif file with two or more frames played in sequence, usually looping.

> Anti-Alias(ing) - The smoothening of aliased, or pixelated edges.
Ex:

> Banner - 1) A larger graphic image displayed on top of a website, forum or the likes. 2) A piece of graphic image displayed on a website/forum for advertisement.

> Bevel (and Emboss) - Photoshop; a layer style that allows shapes and images on that layer to look lifted and 3-dimensional.


> Bitmap - An image file composed of dots (pixels). These images are limited to a certain viewing size, and can be distorted if scaled too largely.
Ex:


> Bleed - Technique used in print (and gfx) where an image or photo is cut off on the edge of its page.
Ex:


> Blending - A technique where one thing turns into another gradually, such as colour, or when an object is placed or altered so that it seems to fit with its surroundings.

> Bg - Background; the furthest level visible in a piece.

> Borders - Lines that outline the edge of a piece.
To create a border:
- Create a new layer on top of all the layers
- Select All
- Edit > Stroke > 1px, colour of your choice, Inside
- VOILA
Ex:

Single Black Borders

> Borders (Double) - Doubled outlines on the edge of a piece.
To do a double border:
- Select the layer with the 1px border. (Ctrl+Click)
- Edit > Stroke > 1px, a different colour of your choics, Outside
- VOILA!
Ex:

Double Black + Grey Borders

> Brushes - 1) Photoshop; a tool used to "brush." Creates a brushing like effect. 2) The type/style/shape of the brush being used.

> CG - 1) Computer Graphics; design and the likes done digitally on a computer. 2) Colouring; when someone takes a lineart and digitally colour it in Photoshop, Open Canvas, or any other suitable programs.

> CODA - Comment(ed) On Deviant Art. Used to tell the author that they have been commented on their deviant art submission.

> Depth - Technically speaking, the '3rd' dimention; Lenght, Width and Depth. Graphically (or artistically or w/e speaking), it's the faking of deapness, or how far into space, that can be seen. Techniques such as contrast of dark and bright colours, gradients and others can be used to add 'depth'. Anything with depth are usually seen as 3-dimentional on a flat surface.

> Drop Shadow - Photohop; layer style that allows images and objects in that layer to case a shadow, allowing depth and floatage (If that's a word).

> DPI - Dots Per Inch. Refers to the number of dots found in a inch by inch square when printing; resolution. Better printers have higher DPI's allowing greater quality.

> Gamut - The range of colour that can be interpreted or created by a certain object or device; our eyes have the greatest range and printing press the lowest range.

> GFX - Graphics - Digital Art.

> GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages. "But it stinks like poo." ~ TheMonkeyKing

> Greyscale - the shades of black and white.

> Grunge (Brushes) - A sharp "grungy" looking type of brush. Can be used to make grunge pieces.

> JPEG - Joint Photographic Experts Group, a very common bitmap image type that was developed specifically for photographic images.

> Marquee (selection) - The dashes indicating a selected area.
Ex:

> PPI - Pixels Per Inch, similar to DPI, it is the measurement of the number of pixels per an inch by inch square.

> Rape - (In a battle) is when one wins a battle because he/she received a certain number of votes while the opponenct received 0. (3/5, 4/7, 5/8 etc...) 4/7 would refer to 4-0 as a rape, while normally it takes 7 votes to win.

> Renders (3D Rendering) - Modeled 3d piece that are calculated for its lightness and darkness. Usually made in 3D Studio Max/Bryce/Cinema 4D

> Rip - When a piece of graphic art is stolen and used or presented by the thief as their own.

Sprites are used extensively in video arcade games and animation sequences.

> Vector - (Dictionary) Vector images are images that are represented by collections of independent line and shape objects which are typically defined by mathematical formulas. This makes these images easier to modify than raster images. Popular vector image programs include Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, and AutoCad. Typically, each program will have its own vector file format. (But most of us uses Photoshop; Pentool)
