Why are you not offloading mysql off to a secondary server, I know sites larger than this that run of a Duel core 2ghz 4Gb for webtraffic with a dedicated DB server, (2.2ghz duel 2GB ram) And since you are at SL the DB servers are cheap as they give them no public bandwidth. That setup right there would be about $320 / month saving you $280 Also firesight. I know more about this than you, be quiet. |

Meh, you know more about servers than me, I'll admit, but your rudeness is inexcusable. On the other hand, I'm the guy who can get your internet connection turned off if I find your IP, and it would be entirely legal... well... if you live in the USA, anyways. Horray for working for ISPs. *edit* I wouldn't do that though, that's just jackassery. And I'm working on my server knowledge... but my local college fucked up the courses and changed the server configuration course into a damned intro to linux course without telling any of us beforehand! Grah!

Two servers, two points of failure. Not only would I need a Raid setup on the main HTTP Server but one for the DB as well. Furthermore double the licenses and management. Besides 2GB Ram for a database which in itself is over 2GB is size is not enough. Clearly acting smart isn't working out for you but feel free to come at another angle

So you are claiming the setup's for forums larger than yours, with both more forum activity and web traffic are wrong. I am basing my claims on the published invoices of another site. They handle more traffic via alexa and more active users via the bottom of the page. |

Well I don't believe you know the history of this website or how much it's gone through to remain up after all these years. There is a degree of felxibility on the server which allows it to withstand attacks and not crumble over at the first sign. Not all other forums go through that. Furthermore we have one of the most active and largest anime galleries, and other anime websites on this server which I am not going to disclose. What I am Trying to say is judging the strain on the server from active users is ignorant. Not only that you have no idea how many queries and modificaitons are present on the forums, nor do you know about the way the modified version of this forums is displayed to users. Handling traffic is one thing. This server could handle millions upon millions of users if it were a static webpage. Unfortunately that is not the case. Behind each login and refresh of the page complex scripts take place which identify normal users from botnets. Records are kept of IP addressess, frequency of those IP's, point of access and resources accessed by that IP and then a decision is made on what type of page is shown. To you a novice it seems like you click on refresh and voila the page appears. That couldn't be further from the truth. Anyways I've answered enough of your queries.

Hey how are ya Kakashi, I was trying to get a hold of ya earlier but if i may introduce EC suite to you thats the company i work for and, see where we can help. I have been going over your site and see that you use PayPal, Not to put PayPal down. You do know that are people who can use PayPal and have you ever thought of using a another processor to handle your transactions. Because what if there is someone trying to sign-up but can't use PayPal.Thats where your secondary would come in and handle that transaction for you. Let me know what you think. -Zero0Saiyan- |

yeah kakashi if u accepted other ways to donate such as personal checks and credit cards you would probably make a lot more in donations. A lot of people dont like paypal.

^the forum does accept personal checks and other forms of payments via mail. If the site were to accept credit card payments, kakashi would have to set up some sort of merchant gate way, which would still cost money each month.

true but it would be a question of how much profit being able to take credit cards could bring to the site after merchant account costs

I see your point and I don't know enough about merchant gateways to know the exact cost on merchant accounts, but i assume that it'd be costly to take payments from various parts of the world, to solve the problem mentioned a few post above about not being able to use paypal. So, i see why kakashi would stick with paypal alone for online transactions if the cost does not out wiegh the return, especially as paypal does take credit card payments and such.

The site does accept all credit card payments. Simply select that you don't have a paypal account and you will be given that option. Paypal is our credit card processor as well. |

As i mention before EC Suite it can act as an another processor to handle the transactions, we only charge 4.9%+$1.00 USD per transaction. ecsuite.com is out main site. Kakashi take a look and tell me what you think. As far as any charges the 4.9%+$1.00 USD is all we charge and there is nothing else. you can try us out and cancel at any time. -Zero0Saiyan- |
