Saving Private Ryan (actually made me tear up)
Enemy at the Gates (personal favorite)

Full Metal Jacket is indeed a great movie but its more about the training of the soldiersand the effects they have rather than the vietnam war.

We Were Soldiers

The Hunt for Red October
War Games

Operation Dumbo Drop

Good Morning Vietnam

Saving Private Ryan - It's a given, the movie was epic.

Full Metal Jacket - This movie goes more into the psychological aspects of the training and combat during the Vietnam war.

Apocalypse Now - Same as above but not so much the training. This movie is a modern adaption of the book, Heart of Darkness.

Schindler's list isn't so much a war movie as much as a movie that covers the hardships of the polish and german jews in the interment camps during WWII.

The Deer Hunter
Apocalypse Now
Full Metal Jacket
Casualties of War
Platoon
Hamburger Hill
The Siege of Firebase Gloria

In no particular order.

There are a lot more but I don't feel like posting a giant list.

Default Re: the best war movies?

^ Micheal J Fox was really good in Casualties of war, great film.

Full Metal Jacket :I felt bad for that guy that got whipped with the soap.

Saving Private Ryan :Loved the closeness of the unit.

A war movie that I saw recently that was good was Jar Head.It showed some clips of the people after they got back from Desert Storm.
