I just got a chance to listen to the new Sigur Rós album -Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust and wanted to see if anyone else had been checking it out. It is absolutely gorgeous but definitely a departure from their previous albums. I've always loved the sweeping soundscapes and emotionally taxing build up of their songs, and this album is a bit lacking in that regard, but I still find myself really enjoying it. This album has a bit of a happier feel to it, it is beautiful, but not heart wrenchingly so. I've often found Sigur Rós to be a band that you can not just listen to in the background, it envelops you and demands your attention. This album doesn't have that same presence as a whole, but certain songs like "Ára Bátur" still have that same soul shattering impact. "Ára Bátur" starts uncharacteristically simple, with vocals and piano, but builds to an amazingly lovely conclusion with the London Sinfonietta and London Oratory Boy's Choir joining in. Another treat on the album is that the final track, "All Alright" features English vocals for the first time in their history and the magic is not lost. If you've never heard Sigur Ros, I would recommend giving them a try if you enjoy Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Eluvium, or Mogwai. And! You can stream their newest album for free on their site! sigur rós - discography » međ suđ í eyrum viđ spilum endalaust

^Yeah his voice can be a bit off putting, but once you get used to it, it really adds to the entire effect imo. I really love Yndi Halda. Although I haven't been able to find much. I need to look for Ef. Thanks. =]
