I think I'll do the same thing that Zack did with the ?)s to place the ones we know pretty much nothing about. Disclaimer: This list is subject to change.

1) Pein/Madara - We dont know who would win.

2) Itachi/Zetsu? - I think these two will be about the same level.

3) Orochimaru - This idiot will not go away.... ever..... I hate him... plz die already....

4) Kisame/Konan? - I think Konan will be about this level. She got pwned by J-man but not many people wouldnt get pwned by J-man.

5) Deidara/Sasori/Kakuzu - I lump these guys together because I see them as very close to each other. Deidara states that Sasori is stronger but I think it's very very close and he maybe he just has respect for his partner. Kakuzu had the potential to be much stronger but Kishi pulled some retarded BS and ruined a good character by making him get beaten by Naruto Plot-no-jutsu.

6) Hidan - He's kind of a tard. He's got an okay ability but he's obviously low on the akatsuki totem pole. I think probably the only reason he was included in Akatsuki was because of his compatibility with Kakuzu.

2. Madara - Damn strong with his EMS
3. Itachi - Invincible with his Susanoo
4: Orichimaru - I'm sure Orichimaru would have been able to beat Kisame and Sasori if he was at full power.
5. Sasori - Took over an entire country with 1 jutsu.
6. Kisame - Extremely powerful
7. Deidara - Could beat anyone without lightning chakra with his breathe and blow up no jutsu
8. Kakuzu - Extremely powerful but not quite as strong as the above members
9: Hidan - Got defeated by a chuunin even with his immortality hacks
10: Konan - I'm not sure about this one but from what I've seen of her, she seems to be more of a support team member like Zetsu. She helps the other members with her paper powers but keeps out of the battles.
11: Zetsu - Still not sure how powerful this guy is but for now he seems to be a spy, not a fighter.

For some reason, I don't think Orochimaru is the 4th strongest. At best, there would be a three way tie for the spot between Oro, Sasori and Kakuzu. Heck... there is a good chance Kisame is stronger than all of them.

(Extra emphasis here... Sasuke isn't an Akatsuki... he is part of Team Hawk or whatever.)

Sasuke's team isn't part of Akatsuki. Even if they were, Sasuke would go no higher than 4th... and probably not even that high. Chances are that they would be at best 5th and down. Kisame at 4th, and now that I think, Oro very likely either 4th or 5th.

We know Sasuke is supposed to be weaker than Orochimaru. He confirmed this saying that he one because Oro was weakened. We also know that Sasuke says Suigetsu would stand no chance against Kisame. I am not certain that Sasuke would be able to beat Kisame, specially if Kisame is stronger than Oro like so many theorize.

Possibly, Sasuke would be as low as 7th since we can't really judge from Zetsu and Konan. There is a major pattern in literature, manga especially, where the strongest enemies usually last the longest. Now that I think about it, Orochimaru's cockroach nature would easily put him in the top 4 or 5 with the chance of him getting tot he top later on. Why? Well, we see how he just won't go away. Maybe the whole thing with Kabuto will really end up being some sort of rebirth for Oro.

In closing, it isn't like the "weaker" akatsuki members would be completely useless if they fought some of the "stronger" ones. Match ups are important, and so is the element of surprise.

Hidan is the biggest wild card. He could the the strongest since he can't die or the weakest since his ability has a lot of requirements. I think Sasuke now could beat orochimaru.

The reason why Orochi is placed 4th is because he is one of the sannin.
People underestimate him very much. His cunningness was incredible. So I
rank him above Kakuzu and Deidara.

is about their potential and power. Madara is an invincible immortal, by Itachi's words, Pain 's rinnegan is to be feared. I judge instictively. I just read the manga and conclude.

gamao_kolous: I agree with you on the ranking based on the fights I add also Madara, Pein and Zetsu haven' t used ninjutsu in their fights. This ranking is based more on who do you like more in Akatsuki than actual skill, techniques, etc.

In the Naruto universe there isn' t a true metric to measure power in Bleach their is reiatsu, in Claymore the ranking of the Organization, in Gantz is the points systems. Even in those manga the ranking isn' t perfect so you can make a top 10 based on the metric (there are arguments on the character' s power).
The power levels is a motive in mangas to show the character spiritual strength, hard work, intelligence, etc. In many mangas the hero starts with at low level but true hard work (training), determination, will power, ability to ignore pain he defeats stronger a opponent. The power level has the purpose of being one of the catalyst of the hero beginning his journey\ training and to mark the stages in the journey (defeating stronger opponents).
I' ll await for Kishimoto for a ranking in a databook.

pain and kakuzu would still kill him...pain has multiple bodies so if he voodoo's one the others will kill and the sames with kakuzu really...voodoo one heart and the other hearts will kill in the process

then theres sasori which didnt have any blood at all cept at his very core heart...and if u can hit that to get some blood why not just kill him period?

That was only in the anime, not the manga, I really wish people would stop posting that as fact. From what we have seen of Itachi alone I doubt he would be afraid of Jiriaya and if he had the powerhouse Kisame then I do not think Jiraiya would last long (just my opinion). Anyway that could be another thread entirely.

That technique needs a lot of preperation and has too many requirements, I doubt many of the Akatsuki would fall foul of it.


As for my list, the run down would be as follows (I have not included Konan and Zetsu as we do not yet know how capable these characters are and I am not going to try to guess their strength and I am leaving Oro out since he left and did not die as an Akatsuki member)-

1-Pain (Gave the J-Man a severe beat down amd showcased an amazing combo of defence and offence).
2-Madara (As far as we have seen he has never gone on the offence and yet he still ran circles around two skilled teams of Konoha ninja. And I do not believe that was even the tip of the ice berge).
3-Itachi (What every badass should aspire to be, THE BADASS!)
4-Kisame (We already know he has a ridiculous amount of chakra and that he is incredibly strong, I just cannot wait to see him pushed in a fight as he is already displayed enough power to be in the Akatsuki top 5).
5-Kakuza (Showed great awareness in battle and clearly was skilled, shame he had to die really).
6-Sasori (He took over a country, does his ninja credentials need much more?)
7-Diedara (Highly skilled with tactics and explosives. A bit of a pain in the arse though with his art).
8-Hidan (I thought this character should have been defeated with a lot less cost to Konoha, I do not think that compared to the other members he was worthy of the black and red clouded robes).
