Much truth there. Sure, i look fwd to fasting in a religious point of view, yet i do not necessarily enjoy what i have to go through throughout the day, especially if it was a hot day and i had P.E (back in middle/high school) because it is tiresome.

Let me think here.

If the king was a god.

And you followed the state religion.

Then declining to build a monument to you god would be both treason and blasphemy, and would probably have a sentence of either death or.... slavery!

So you can volunteer to help build a giant monument for a few months, and then go back to your normal life, OR, you can build it until you die.

Sure, they may have volunteered, but there really wasn't that much of a choice in it. When your God mandates that you do something, you typically do it... just look at our current examples!

AMERICA, AMERICA!

'Twas for thy good,
And so we should
Glow bright for all to see!

They wouldn't say no to it though, he was Horus incarnate, why would you tell Horus no? when he's your god especially especially if his incarnate was a likable guy.

Keep in mind kings in Egypt kings were generally alright guys they weren't Tyrants who did what they want whenever they wanted to. (I'm sure theres exceptions to this, there always are.)

Theres really no evidence at all that they were forced, it may have been an expectation but as far as men with whips forcing them to work? thats just simply untrue.

(I'm sure there were kings weren't remembered very kindly, but there is no evidence that suggests they were Tyrannical.)
