| one last song | Literature Section Protips + RP Section Rules LITERATURE SECTION PROTIPS: As a moderator here on NarutoMania, I am often faced with a wide array of situations in which I am unsure of how to react. I was once a regular member, and once even a newbie on this website, and there are key elements to how one can act or respond to problems on here that can ease the process of enjoying your stay. In this little "protips" section, I would like to discuss a few things that can better your time here at NarutoMania, as well as discuss things relating to harassment and issues as such. Whether you are new to the literature section as a whole or not, there are always certain things that can make it easier to post. Remember, it's a very smart thing to be as courteous as possible, and to keep in mind that negativity often create arguments that are unneeded and wholly unnecessary. Never be afraid to post something, whether it be in the role playing area, general literature area, or the comics area. There is no penalty for posting a thread in an incorrect area unless it was deliberately done with full knowledge that it should not be there. Furthermore, you need to understand that you don't need to fear "failure," so to speak. If you create a role play and it does not take off, you must merely accept it and move on. Many role plays have failed, likely hundreds in fact, and chances are some have done much worse than your own. If you share your writing in the literature area and people aren't into what you've said, and expose problems with it more so than the good aspect, do not fret! In actuality, this is incredibly beneficial to you as it shows you what you need to fix and will better you as a writer. The main issue that comes up in the literature section as a whole is what to do in case of confusion. The answer is simple: private message me, Yachiru. I am your moderator, and as such I am entrusted to watch over this section and aid any and all members that enter it. I am your personal book of answers, and all you need to do is ask me your questions. You can find me on AIM or MSN, or you can e-mail me, or you can private message me on here. Unlike some moderators, I go out of my way to respond to my private messages, as I know how irritating it is when someone you need help from refuses to acknowledge you. This brings us to an issue of harassment. It is not tolerated, nor will it ever be tolerated. This is a creative writing section of the site, and so it is nothing but creativity. You never insult creativity, you nurture it and expand on it. If anyone ever openly insults/harasses you, this is what you need to do: 1. Contact me. I will warn/infract the person who did it depending on the severity and the actual situation. Keep in mind that this is also dependent on the relationship of the people involved, two old friends are not going to incur my wrath such as a newbie getting stomped on by a regular. 2. Contact the person who insulted/harassed you. Talk it out, see if the problem can be solved. If not, I can potentially mediate. If you'd rather leave it at the standstill, then it becomes your responsibility to not intentionally start another argument. However, I will watch over all of the problem parties like a hawk, and squash any pointless arguments I see. That's it! It's surprising how little there is to it, but even so those two points above are incredibly important. The literature section is not meant for animosity, and rather an extensive area where people can share what they have created with one another either as an outside source looking for comments or as a group of individuals writing stories together post by post. This area helps build on the writing skills of people who continually post in it, and as such it is an area that genuinely offers something beneficial to everyone who joins in. In conclusion, please remember that I am here to answer any and all questions, even those not necessarily related to the literature area. I am here to help deal with all harassment, and I am also here to help smooth out your use of this area. I moderate this section for a reason, I would like to think, and I would also like to think that I continue to moderate it because I have proven that I do a good job at it and am willing to become better at it. So, please, everyone keep in mind that the literature section is so revered because of the people who post in it, so go out of your way to welcome new members to it as they join and nurture their writing abilities the way people have done and will continue doing for you. -Yachiru, Feb 16, 2007 ROLE PLAYING RULES: HEY. JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT ALL THE TIMES I'VE SAID THAT THE RULES DON'T APPLY TO SOUL SOCIETY AND KONOHA MURA.. WELL, THANKS TO PEOPLE IN SAID ROLE PLAYS HAVING A BIT OF A PROBLEM DOING WHAT I SAY, THEY NOW DO. TECHNICALLY THEY ALWAYS DID, BUT I SAID THEY DIDN'T BECAUSE NO ONE EVER ACTUALLY BROKE THE RULES. BUT THERE'S BEEN AN INFLUX OF "BUT WRRYYY???" PEOPLE AND I'M SICK OF HAVING TO EXPLAIN MYSELF. IF YOU ARE POSTING IN SOUL SOCIETY OR KONOHA MURA: YOU MUST HAVE FIVE FUCKING SENTENCES IN YOUR ROLE PLAYING POSTS. PERIOD. Basic listing of the rules (as of November 30, 2006): 1. If your RP does not receive enough members for you to deem it ready to start within a month of creation, it will be trashed*. 2. Only one unstarted sign-up per user at a time. 3. No more than 3 rps per user. 4. If an rp does not receive a post for a month**, the rp will be trashed. If a newly created rp does not manage a decent** amount of posts within a week, it will also be trashed. 5. Stick with only a sign-up until at least 2 people have joined your rp, then you can make the actual play thread. Inactive** new rps will be trashed. 6. Do not make an rp that has been all ready been made into one. Exceptions can be made. 7. Do not role play with duplicate accounts. This rule, in fact, coincides with a forum rule. 8. Flaming is not tolerated. 9. Trashed role plays can be brought back a single time by PMing myself. If they are trashed twice, they are gone for good, and the entire concept of it cannot be remade by the original creator. 10. NO CYBERING. 11. No pictures outside of designated picture threads or applicable situations in specific role plays as per determined by GMs and/or moderators, and no "talking" without posting images in aforementioned threads. No nudity. 12. All IC posts must contain at least five sentences, which is not inclusive of OOC add-ons. Posts that do not reach this minimum will be mercilessly deleted without warning or guilt. 13. You may create no more than ONE rp every TWO months. * All rps and rp-related threads are moved into the Soul Society Trash Can located here. ** Or near a month. This is up to the discretion of the moderators. Updates and posts: July 6, 2006: Note: This announcement does not apply to the Soul Society RP and/or the Konoha Mura RP. All righty kids, here's the deal. The role playing section is a bit messy, as I'm sure you people know, so I'm going to toss down a couple of ground rules here so we can fix that and furthermore keep it from happening again: 1. If your RP does not receive enough members for you to deem it ready to start within a month of creation, it will be deleted. A month is plenty of time to get members. If not enough people sign up, then in all liklihood your idea sucked and/or your implementation sucked, and you just have to deal with it. 2. Only one unstarted sign-up per user at a time. What this means is this: If you create a role playing sign up and create another sign up for a different role play before that first one begins or is deleted, that first one is automatically going to get deleted. If you have a sign-up all ready, but that rp has all ready begun, then it is fine for you to make another rp sign-up. Let me put this in pictures for you: That's two unstarted sign-ups. That is a no-no. Don't do that. One of those rps has started, which means that it is fine that he has created a new rp sign-up. All that I ask is that you never ever ever have more than one unstarted rp sign-up at one time. As I said, if you create more than one, the older one(s) will get deleted. How can you tell if one that isn't your's has started? Notice the circles on the left side of those pictures. If there is a symbol there other than the little piece of paper thing, then there is very likely a matching symbol to the rp thread down below the sticky area. Sign-up threads have symbols matching to the related role play thread. 3. Small, but potentially useful rule: No more than 3 rps per user, please. ![]() As of right now, the date is July 7th, 2006. Both of these rules are going to take power today. If you have any questions, ask. I assure you, I honestly don't mind answering PMs. Hell, you can contact me on AIM or MSN if you would prefer - both are easy to attain through my profile. Quote:
-Yachi! August 19, 2006 Guess who's back, back again? Yachi's back, tell a friend. Hey bitches, I've got a few updates that once again do not apply to the KM and SS sections (aside from rule number 6). Here we go: 1: If an rp does not receive a post for a month, the rp will be trashed. If an rp does not manage a decent amount of posts within a certain amount of time, it will also be trashed. What does this mean? Well, say an rp hasn't had a post for 28 days, then boom, post. If I don't see a rip-roarin' good time's worth of posts come within the next few days, the rp's going to get trashed anyways. So don't waste time trying to bring back a dead rp. 2. Making a new rp? Stick with only a sign-up until at least 2 people have joined your rp, then you can make the actual play thread. New rp's will be watched closely as well for activity. I assure you, unless it's heavily posted in by both parties, an rp running with only 2 people actually posting in it will probably get trashed. 3. Do not make an rp that has been all ready been made into one. This would include situations such as a Naruto rp, a Bleach rp, a Final Fantasy rp, an X-Men rp, etc. Certain exceptions will be made based on how far off the general idea is of the original. 4. Do not role play with more than one account. If you have multiple people that use your IP in your house, please just tell me so I won't assume it's you being stupid. 5. Think you want to make a role play, but it might fail? Who cares? Make it anyways. Keep added rule number 3 in mind, of course, but I'd much rather you attempt to make a role play than just assume you'll fail. It's possible you will, but it's possible you won't. Nothing bad will happen to you if it does fail, I surely don't hold grudges towards creativity. 6. All of you know that I do not warn for spam, however, from now on I am going to start warning for fights. I don't mean petty arguments, I mean brawls where very unkind words are tossed around like cookies and pixie dust. If someone says something mean to you, that person will be dealt with. You say something mean back? You'll be dealt with, too. Best way to argue back to something tossed your way it to respond in a PM. Since this is a blatant announced pre-warn, don't expect me to leave points out when I warn you for breaking this rule. I'm a lenient God, but just because I don't often strike my lightning doesn't mean I don't have plenty just itching to go down. In case that rule didn't make sense, just know that from now on, in arguments, don't insult your opponent(s), and you're safe. That's about it for now. As more ideas add up I may do another edit in the future. As always, questions can be tossed my way in any number of ways: PM? Go for it. MSN? jjmsome@hotmail.com AIM? jjmsome E-Mail? loooooorv@aol.com - make sure to subject with Narutomania or I'll delete it. Hugs and kisses. October 5, 2006 Just a little note, really.. if your rp is moved due to inactivity, and you want to restart it or whatever: don't. PM me and I'll bring it back. If it dies a second time, it's not coming back again, and you're not starting another one like it. So, if I ditch your rp and it makes you sad, I do give second chances, and within the first week of it being restored, it must match my personal definition of re-active or it's gone for good. Also, my contact details above have been slightly editted. Hmm.. anything else.. anything else.. well, a reminder: flaming is under a zero-tolerance policy. Most of you guys are good about that, though. Erm.. I'm trying to stretch this out to make it seem like I'm doing more than I actually do, but honestly, you players take care of your own spam and problems now. I'm actually kind of useless sans for moving threads, sticking them, and deleting the small bit of spam left behind absently. Keep up the good works, it makes it easier to moderate. <3 Yachi November 30, 2006 From now on, every in-character role play post has to be at least five sentences in length. Content in a post that is OOC, or [bracketed], does not count towards this number. If you do not reach the minimum, your post will be deleted without warning. The post will not be restored, you will have to write a completely new one. This rule is taking affect tomorrow morning. HEED IT. Note: Whether a sentence is actually a sentence will be determined by myself or any other mod milling about the area at the time of notice. Yachi. Edit: It is also possible to skate past this rule with a large-looking post. Normal font size, of course, but if you have maybe just 2 or 3 sentences, but they're nice and meaty, then you're keen. Alright, I'm adding this in for my sake.. if I delete your post, and you bitch to me because you don't think it should have been, please view these posts and shut the fuck up about description: http://www.narutomania.com/forums/sh...&postcount=193 http://www.narutomania.com/forums/sh...postcount=2197 http://www.narutomania.com/forums/sh...&postcount=154 http://www.narutomania.com/forums/sh...9&postcount=59 http://www.narutomania.com/forums/sh...&postcount=203 http://www.narutomania.com/forums/sh...&postcount=201 http://www.narutomania.com/forums/sh...&postcount=202 December 26, 2006 Okay children, you've managed to once again grab onto that chain of tolerance I have and flush it down the toilet so as to cause me to quickly get yanked downward at varying angles until I slowly find myself swirled into a moist oblivion that smells of yesterday's dinner. You people make too many role plays. Creativity be damned, I'm sick of it. You make one, disregard it, and then make another one as soon as you're able. Well no more, children. From now on, you are allowed to make a single role play every TWO months. Yes, two months. Also, rule 4 was amended so that you now officially have a single week to make a newly created rp sufficiently action, or it will be closed. And I assure you, with each closed thread my hunger will not be sated, and in fact the joy that I gain in trashing your dreams and creativity will only further fuel my inner rage and malice. Please heed this rule. ![]() -Yachikins
