    Default Weekly Writing Contest 83

On Thursday a topic will be chosen and posted by the previous weeks winner. Then everyone who wants to enter will post their piece in the thread before 12:00 PM (-8:00 GMT) Thursday. So that is Wednesday night/early Thursday Morning. Then the previous winner will judge all the pieces and pick the new winner and post it in the entry thread sometime on Thursday (try and do it as early as you can). The weeks winner will then pick the topic and make a new thread and it starts all over again. Remember this is your chance to shine!!!

    Rules:

    1. All forms of writing are welcome, whether it be poetry, short stories, essays, fan fiction, or whatever.
    2. All entries must be under 500 words
    3. All entries will be rated no higher than R this will be at the mods discretion. All entries rated over PG-13 must be under spoiler tags with a warning!
    4. The week's judge's decision is final and absolute. There no whining or complaining about another piece being better or the judge not being able to judge. On a flip note lets try and keep it as fair and impartial as possible.
    5. Critique will be allowed in another thread, but must remain constructive. Just saying 'your piece sucks' is not allowed and will be dealt with accordingly. Everyone will be trying their best so lets not try to hurt feelings. On the flip side learn to take criticism it will help you become a better writer.
    6. Let's have fun with it. This will give you a chance to read others people's writing and let others read yours.
    7. A default judge will pick a new winner and topic if the week's judge goes MIA.
    8. If for some reason you can't fulfill your duties. Please PM Sarah so that she will be able to take appropriate action so the contest doesn't suffer delays.
    9. Have fun!!!

Too softly now, the whispers of the past echo to me. The things they tell me are things that I should never speak. In this place, where my thoughts have called home, I have felt a recent change lately. I feel memories, some that are foreign to me. I feel years of love, when in reality, I have never felt any form of regard to another person. Unsure of what this means, I ask questions endlessly. What is it that I have become?

Each "memory" I feel, it is not mine, but someone elses. There are no specific details, as I cannot ever recall what things looked or smelled like. I can only sense the feeling. This feeling coarses through my blood, and resonates deep within my metaphorical heart. I never felt anything like this before. I feel so...uplifted.

All these years of isolation and introspection...have I dug so deeply and yearned so persistantly that I have become opaque to my own eyes? Perhaps, or maybe I have just opened eyes of insight never before imagined. When I stare at a person, I see more than their eyes, I see the depth of their soul encased within a hollow shell. Not, that is not quite right with most people. I see a hollow soul, within a crowded shell of misery and self deception.

But even so, there is that one set of eyes that enlivens my spirit, making my gaze magnificient yet so melancholy. I see a purity of love and emotion, to a depth that I could never despair in its immensity. For the first time, this old body and these old eyes of mine, feel enlightened by a happiness that never had and never will belong to me.

Thanks guys for entering, I really appreciate it. Both were good reads =)

4thseal - I really like the way you interpreted the topic. It was an interesting concept, especially how our souls are drawn to others so intensely. I noticed a few typos but nothing major. I especially loved the ending. the whole tone felt almost dreamlike and the ending was the narrator realizing his own substance.

"realizing my body can do what soul always has wanted to."

    Especially liked the ending line

Insin - I really loved this short piece you wrote. Minus a few minor errors, it was beautifully written and portrayed a very detailed and somewhat personal experience of realization. I must say I think its one of my favorites from you. There were many lines I loved, but I will go into detail with you another time. Overall nice job, loved the ending

    And the winner is...

Thanks Kai!! I find it curious that the writing of mine that you like the most is always the stuff I write on the fly and put the least amount of time into haha.
